Al-Ettifaq Saudi Club officially announced the dismissal of Dean Holden, the assistant to the English coach Steven Gerrard, raising doubts about the fate of the English coach with the club, due to the recent decline in results. Al-Ettifaq ranks 12th in the league table, after losing 50% of its matches, including 4 in the last 5 rounds, and was eliminated from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup by Al-Jabalain.
However, the English radio "Talk Sport" reported that Gerrard will continue in his position, despite his team's poor start this season.
This is after the club's management preferred not to dismiss Gerrard, who was subjected to boos from the team's fans after losing to Al-Qadisiyah (0-2) recently.
Gerrard took over as technical director of Al-Ettifaq in July 2023, and his contract with the Saudi club extends until the summer of 2027.
Gerrard succeeded in leading Al-Ettifaq to sixth place in his first season in the Roshn League, before his setback in the first rounds of the current season.
Al-Ettifaq lost its last match against Al-Hilal 1-3 on November 8 in the league.
