The Barcelona and Real Sociedad match, yesterday evening, Sunday, witnessed a controversial refereeing situation, in the 13th round of the Spanish Football League, La Liga. Barcelona suffered a surprising defeat against host Real Sociedad by a single goal, to be the first defeat after four consecutive victories and the second in La Liga this season, to stop its balance at 33 points at the top of the standings, 6 points ahead of runner-up Real Madrid.
In the 13th minute of the match, Polish striker Robert opened the scoring for Barca, but referee Cuadra Fernandez's goal decision was overturned by VAR, which declared the goal invalid due to the Polish star being offside.
While the television broadcast showed Lewandowski in a good position, the "semi-automatic offside technology" showed the Barcelona striker a few millimeters ahead.
The German coach of Barcelona, Hansi Flick, seemed upset after his team lost to host Real Sociedad 1-0 at the "Anoeta" stadium. Flick said in a television interview after the final whistle: "I told the referee that the video technology was wrong in calling offside against Robert Lewandowski in the shot of the disallowed goal for Barcelona at the beginning of the first half."
Some social media users mocked the video technology, which they considered to have made a mistake and called offside incorrectly, after mistaking defender Nayef Ajrad's foot for Lewandowski's foot.
