Liverpool reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao English League Cup after beating host Brighton 3-2 in the round of 16 on Wednesday.
Dutch striker Cody Gakpo was the star of the match by scoring two goals for Liverpool in the 46th and 63rd minutes, while his Colombian teammate Luis Diaz added the third in the 85th minute, while Simon Adingra and Tariq Lamptey scored Brighton's goals in the 81st and 90th minutes.
Manchester United qualified for the same round by sweeping Leicester City 5-2, while Arsenal beat Preston North End 3-0.
Newcastle also booked their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup by beating Chelsea 2-0, and so did Tottenham after defeating Manchester City by 2 goals to 1.
