Tottenham knocked host Manchester City out of the round of 16 of the Carabao League Cup by beating them 2-1 , Wednesday. Manchester City coach, Pep Guardiola, preferred to rest most of his stars, led by top scorer Erling Haaland, and relied on emerging faces in the starting lineup against Tottenham.
Tottenham took an early lead in the fifth minute through Timo Werner, then Pape Sarr doubled the score in the 25th minute with a wonderful shot.
Matheus Nunez scored Manchester City's only goal. With this victory, Tottenham qualified for the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
As for Manchester City, after its early exit from the League Cup, it will return to the English Premier League next Saturday, where it will face its host Bournemouth in the tenth round, with its eyes on strengthening its position at the top of the standings, as it is one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool.
