An unexpected blunder made by those in charge of distributing the Ballon d'Or award.
France Football magazine announced during a ceremony held yesterday evening, Monday, in Paris, the crowning of Manchester City and Spain national team star Rodri with the Ballon d'Or/Golden Ball Award for the best football player in the world for the year 2024.
After the start of the 2024 ceremony and the arrival of guests, and before announcing the winner , the official account of the Ballon d'Or award on Instagram posted a picture of Portuguese Ruben Dias, Manchester City defender, with a comment stating that Rodri had arrived.
The account administrators quickly corrected the mistake and modified the post and put the name of the Portuguese defender instead of Rodri, but it seems that this correction came too late.
Social media users circulated the mistake accompanied by sarcastic comments from the entity presenting the prestigious award, especially since this blunder related to the first star of the ceremony.
Spanish media highlighted the Ballon d'Or calculation error, which was published by the Spanish TV programme "Chiringuito" with the comment: "They will give him (Rodri) the Ballon d'Or, and they do not know who he is?"
